Amerikick Karate in Park Slope, Brooklyn, is like nothing you've experienced before! It is the perfect place for parents seeking a fun, relaxed environment for their child's introduction to karate. Children learn basic karate blocks, punches and kicks in a fun atmosphere. Obstacle courses, high-energy music, skill-based activities and games help to create learning opportunities that meet your child's number one desire – to have FUN!
While karate is a Martial Art, we've created a non-contact, age-appropriate curriculum in which your child can focus on their own personal advancement. The combination of karate and gymnastics helps to improve coordination, balance and fitness for the body, as well as concentration, self-discipline, and confidence for the mind!
Our Kid's Karate classes Develop:
From the very first class, your child will learn the importance of eye contact, posture, and active listening skills that will benefit them not only in Karate but at home, on the playing field, and of course, at school. Both teachers and parents often notice the dramatic difference in children who study the Martial Arts. Your child will be more focused with school and homework.
When confronted, a child’s first option should be to get away; fighting should be the very last resort. It is a myth that the Martial Arts fosters aggressiveness in children. On the contrary, with continuous training, there are natural increases in a child’s confidence, discipline and self-control.
The Martial Arts instills discipline in students by requiring full attention in class, refraining from unruly behavior, the importance of arriving on time and being prepared. Students are also taught to follow instructions and not interrupt instructors. Kids are expected to keep uniforms and other items clean and organized.
Many parents enroll their children in Martial Arts to boosts their confidence, self-esteem and feeling of self-worth. Kids put forth their best effort, defend themselves, recognize their own potential and believe in their abilities. Because of their own efforts, there is a feeling of pride with each rank advancement.
Nothing does a better job at teaching the “old school” values of respect and courtesy. Martial Arts training teaches children to answer in a respectful manner to instructors (“Yes Sensei” or “No Sensei”), bow when entering and leaving the dojo, tag hands before sparring, stand straight before class begins and raising hands to answer or ask a question.
At a very early age, Martial Art students are encouraged to set long term goals. The most obvious goal is reaching the rank of Black Belt. The Martial Arts instills indomitable spirit so children never give up on their dreams. Learning to set goals encompasses the life experiences of a Martial Arts student.
“Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and tripled in adolescents in the past 30 years.” (CDC, 7/2013). “Two-thirds of U.S. adults are overweight or obese.” (Flegalet al., 2012). We hear about it all the time. Did you know that in many cases, the bad lifestyle habits that lead to obesity start in childhood and can get worse over time? Fortunately, the Martial Arts help families avoid falling into these statistics by teaching healthy lifestyles and fitness early on. The Martial Arts improve flexibility, endurance, balance, agility, strength and motor skills.
My Confidence Increased and Now Can Deliver a Solid Punch!
I originally signed up for three months of women's kickboxing, thinking I could get some cardio exercise in and maybe learn a little self-defense. That was a year and a half ago, and I've never left! The classes are intense workouts that are always different, which keeps things interesting. There are two different instructors, Ms. Ada and Ms. Carrie, each of whom has her own style of teaching and who complement each other well. Both are very supportive and positive. They appreciate the beauty and strength of women of all shapes and sizes, and encourage you to give all you have to being your best and developing good fighting form. Since I've been going there I've seen my confidence increase, because they've taught me I can do things I never thought I'd be able to do. And it never hurts to know how to deliver a good, solid punch! Highly recommended both for fitness and self-defense.
Our Son has had Lessons in Honesty, Respect, Confidence and Integrity.
We are in love with Amerikick. Originally, we took our 4 year old son to Amerikick so that he could work on his coordination and enjoy a physical activity. What we didn't know, was that the training at Amerikick extends so far beyond the Studio. It's really been a dream come true. Our son has had lessons in honesty, respect, confidence, and integrity. He has been challenged by the Sensei to form positive routines in his life, be a good student, and be helpful in the house. He has been invited to be a part of a community, with a summer bbq, an amusement park trip, and charity events. Through Amerikick, which we honestly thought would be a just a weekend sport, my son is becoming an amazing little man. We couldn't be more thrilled.
He NOW has Discipline, Focus and Amazing Self Esteem.
Amerikick Martial Arts at Park Slope Rocks! The instructors are super dedicated to the success of each child. My son started at Amerikick at the age of 3 years old with lots of energy and no real place to expel this energy. As a new parent I had no idea of how to direct all this energy so I found Amerikick though an internet search; I had no idea how this would shape my sons life. I honestly thought it would be a way for him to run around and burn some energy but at 9 years old he is now disciplined, focused, and has an amazing self esteem. The instructors make the school the best place in Park Slope because they care about the success of each child. It is also a pleasure to walk into a Marital Arts school and have the instructors make each person feel like family. The school is so fantastic I am now a student (kickboxing Program). I must say it will whip you into shape.
I highly recommend this school to children and adults of all ages. Amerkick thank you for making us apart of the Amerikick family.
